TODAY IN MY GARDEN

How's that for a scintillating title?

I’m not in a word mood -  but I like to keep a record of what’s happening and when - so this is a picture post. Photos taken in a not very good light - but photos taken only a few minutes ago. That’s what makes them special.

I'm gradually disentangling the Clematis Armandii
from the Fatsia and the other plants and bushes
it has embraced throughout the winter.
This little strand is welcome to support itself against the apple tree.

Earlier today, this flower was open. Only because it is evening have the petals closed.

This year's blackcurrant buds look much the same as last year's. But . . .

My emotions are always touched by the apple's combination of sturdiness and delicacy.

The flowers of Honeysuckle Graham Thomas have turned out to be a bit of a disappointment but the leaves are always a delight; they are of such a very pleasant shade of green. In the sunshine, they are lighter in colour and lighter-hearted than in this photo - but that's winter afternoons for you!

Wonderful to see spring is sneaking in to wake up the garden!

Hello Mark and Gaz and Donna. I'm not sure it feels much as if spring is about to arrive - indeed, I'm not sure I want it to. Even though I've lived on the South Coast for . . about twenty years (oh!) I've never got used to the absence of the proper cold in the East of England and Scotland. I'm also trying not to feel too much of a murderous delight in the knowledge that the sawfly and (possibly) leaf miners which I've mentioned in recent posts will be having a hard time of it. Having said that, all the frost has gone and, while others are having snow, frost, freezing rain . . . we are currently being subjected to a mild and pleasant drizzle.

Thanks Victoria. Not so much a blog here as a scrapbook so I can look back and say 'oh, that's what happened then' - which means I quite value these 'today' posts.
